What do ethics in AI mean?
Ethics in AI refer to moral principles and methods used to guide the responsible creation and use of artificial intelligence technology. As AI is increasingly incorporated into various products and services, organizations are beginning to establish ethical guidelines for its development and usage.
Why is it important to consider ethics when it comes to AI? AI is a human-created technology that mimics or enhances human intelligence. It relies on data to make informed decisions, but if the data is flawed or biased, it can lead to unintended harmful consequences. Additionally, the complexity of AI algorithms makes it difficult for us to understand how they reach their conclusions, forcing us to rely on systems we can't fully explain. Developing an AI ethics framework is crucial to assess the risks and benefits of AI and establish guidelines for responsible use. This requires the industry and interested parties to address significant social issues and explore what defines our humanity.
Kelly Combs, managing director of KPMG US, emphasized the importance of including clear guidelines when creating an AI code of ethics. These guidelines should address the deployment and ongoing monitoring of the technology. The policies should also require measures to prevent unintended bias in machine learning algorithms, regularly detect changes in data and algorithms, and keep track of the origin of data and the individuals responsible for training the algorithms.
